RESUMO:

Background: The radiological evaluation is still an undeniably efficient and fast diagnostic imaging method. Obtaining radiographic references such as the Ordem das Aves in this work is relevant for Veterinary Medicine, as it may in the future help in the clinic and surgery of similar specimens, with a shortage of studies that include more families of Brazilian avifauna, which may be under conservation measures or endangered. The objective of this work is to correlate the size of birds with their cortical and medullary thickness areas of the humerus and tibiotarsus and to evaluate the technical dose used for the measurements of the bones in an assertive way.

Materials, Methods and Results: 19 birds of the Order accipitriformes were used in the study, being part of the specimens from the frozen anatomical collection of the Federal University of Pará (UFPA) and others from the Mangal das Garças Ecological Park. The studies were carried out at UFPA and at the Federal Rural University of Amazônia (UFRA). The animals were radiographed in a single exposure to detect the humerus in a mediolateral view and in the craniocaudal view of the tibiotarsus. The dosing techniques of six canine specimens were randomly obtained for a comparative study of that used in birds for reference purposes and evaluation of significant differences between studies of radiographic techniques.

Discussion: It was found that the specimens Heterospizias meridionalis and Geranoaetus albicaudatus are radiographically larger in their measurements of their cortical and medullary areas than the other specimens of the Order. The species Rupornis magnirostris was the most demanded bird in the study. Regarding the measurements of the humerus and tibiotarsus, they were the same on both sides. The medullary longitudinal areas of the right humerus (AMLUD), transverse right humerus (AMTUD) and transverse right tibiotarsus (AMTTD) showed the highest correlations with each other. This correlation is relevant because, based on information like this, it is possible to establish the issue of implant placement, scar, types of materials, even the type of surgical technique to be used in each case [3]. As a rule, the longer the bone, the larger its cortical and medullary zones, which was confirmed in the research results. The present study suggests that, in the order of accipitriforms, there is a strong and positive correlation according to [15], as 85.72% of the results remained in the reference range of 0.70 to 0.89. The study also confirms that birds have unique anatomical characteristics due to their ability to fly and their appendages have a larger medullary channel than other species, with a thinner cortex, making them subject to fractures [7]. The t test of the two species showed that there was no significant difference between the doses for kV, mAs and T. Significance range (p < 0.05). Where I depend on the acquisition of diagnostic images, radiographic technical factors directly influence the quality of the exam. It is also verified that in the experiments carried out with the canine species, authors such as [2, 4, 16] mention only the dose limits or only the brand of equipment, not detailing the dosage techniques used in the various experiments carried out. . with the species. Data notation and calculation are relevant for evaluating dosing techniques along with radiological image quality.
