RESUMO:

Introduction: Scabies is a neglected, parasitic disease of worldwide prevalence. The main treatment used against the disease are ivermectin and permethrin, both with limitations that difficult the disease control. Momordica charantia L. is a plant species found on the tropical regions of the planet which is used and studied in the combat of several diseases. There are records of popular use of the species against scabies, and its chemical composition reinforces this hypothesis. Objective: The objective of this work is to obtain and characterize a semi-solid formulation containing spray dried Momordica charantia L. extract for the treatment of scabies. Methodology: Tinctures were prepared from the leaves of Momordica charantia, which underwent physical and chemical evaluation. The samples will then be spray dried and will be evaluated in vivo together with the tinctures to evaluate the scabicidal activity. Finally, a semi-solid formulation made from the on the tincture will be developed, which will undergo quality and stability tests. Partial results and discussion: After the preparation of the tincture, the chemical evaluation performed by the methods of HPLC, HPTLC and NMR, together with thermogravimetric and FT-IR analyzes suggest the presence of terpene compounds in the tinctures, substances that may be related to the scabicidal activity described in the literature. Partial conclusions: The physicochemical characterization of the powder and tincture of M. charantia was concluded and the results suggest the presence of terpene compounds in the species.
