Objective:ToevaluatetheefficiencyofcompensatoryorthodontictreatmentofClass III patientstreatedwith a preadjustedbracket system designed for dentoalveolarcompensationcomparedtopatientstreatedwith non-compensatedpreadjustedbrackets.Methods:FiftySixpatientswereretrospectivelyselectedafteranalysisof 3559 orthodonticrecords. The samplewasdividedintotwogroupsaccordingtothetypeofbracketsusedduringorthodontictreatment: Group 1- Non-compensatedpreadjustedbrackets- Roth (n=28), andGroup 2- bracketsdesigned for Class III compensatorytreatment- Capelozza III (n=28). The cases weretreatedconsecutivelybytwoorthodontists .Treatment time, PeerAssessmentRating  indexatthebeginning (PAR-T1) andendoftreatment (T2 PAR) wereusedtocalculatetreatmentefficiency. StatisticalanalysiswasperformedusingStudent's t-testor Mann-Whitney testat p<0.05.  Results:Patientstreatedwith non-compensatedpreadjustedbracketshad a treatment time 7 monthslonger (p=0.006) thanthegroupofpatientstreatedwithbracketsdesigned for Class III compensation. Significantimprovement in thepatients’ occlusion (PAR T2-T1) wasobserved for bothgroupswith no statisticaldifference (p=0.225). Thus, treatmentefficiencywassignificantlyhigher for thegrouptreatedwithbrackets for Class III compensation (p=0.03).   Conclusions: No difference in thequalityofthe final occlusaloutcomewasobserved for bothbracketprescriptions. However, treatment time for Class III patientstreatedwithbracketsdesigned for compensationwasshorterthanwithconventionalstraight-wirebrackets.  Thisfinding shows thatorthodonticbracketsdesigned for dentoalveolarcompensationofClass III malocclusion are more efficientthan standard straight-wireprescription.
