RESUMO:

This research explores the Resexmar Soure community's perspective on climate change and their
adaptation strategies. It examines the intricate relationships between this coastal community and
environmental changes previously attributed to climate change, focusing on their awareness, adaptive
capacity, and ecological and social challenges. The research employed a semi-structured questionnaire
to interview community leaders and local partners to gain insight into the community's perception of
climate change. The survey encompassed the community's exposure and perception of climate change,
their adaptive capacity, and the effectiveness of public policies. Two hundred eighty-eight interviews
were conducted to collect quantitative and qualitative data on the community's experiences and
perceptions. A significant level of awareness about climate change was noted within the Resexmar
Soure Community, including observations of increased temperatures, changes in precipitation patterns,
and biodiversity loss. These environmental changes substantially affect the community's livelihoods,
particularly in fishing and agriculture. Despite facing numerous challenges, the community has
demonstrated resilience and adaptability, for example, through reforestation and innovative fishing
practices. However, there is an urgent need for more inclusive educational programs, policy
development, and support systems to address the community's unique vulnerabilities and
opportunities. The study's findings extend beyond the Resexmar Soure Community, highlighting the
importance of integrating local knowledge and experiences into broader climate change adaptation
strategies. It emphasizes the necessity for a participatory approach in policy formulation and
management, ensuring that adaptation efforts are culturally relevant and scientifically accurate. This
case study will serve as an essential resource for future research and policymaking to enhance the
resilience of coastal communities worldwide to climate change.
